The above photo is me at age 5 years.
A little on the leggy side then and now, I ended up growing to a tall 5'9"! I wore tights, in various colors, always matching my outfits all year 'round. I didn't care about the climate. I am still the same way today, if I want to wear something, I wear it. If I love something, I love it. I'm loyal.

In my teens, I modeled for print & runway, I worked in New York in both beauty & fashion and now, am a lifestyle writer, beauty & fashion being my favorite topics. I fell in love with beauty & fashion very early on in life, as you can see and love it with the same fervor to this day.

One Christmas, at the tender age of 5, I fell in love with Chanel.
Ask my Mother & she will tell you the story. My Father was in the AirForce and had just returned to the U.S. from a visit in Paris. He had purchased Chanel No. 5 for my Mother, her Birthday is the 18th of December & Christmas was just around the corner, it was probably expensive...but love has no price, right?

My Mother tells the story so much better than I, but I will give you a shorter version. It was on her dressing table, this beautiful amber-filled bottle with a glittering crystal stopper. I climbed up, pushing the chair sideways with my feet straddled & planted between the bed and the table.

At least, that is what I told her through the tears. She said she could smell Chanel No. 5 before I walked through the house, however, at the same time she smelled, was simultaneously, the same time I graced the door where she stood. We all know time changes thoughts & memories, but trust me, this woman remembers everything.

To this day, I swear I can remember her being slightly teary-eyed, yet she tells me each time that she wasn't upset or mad. I smiled at her as she bent down and merely asked me, in a quiet way. "Melly, what did you do?" And I said, "Mommy, I am wearing Channel 5."

She only lost a smidgen of the bottle that day and moved it out of my reach. I put on quite a bit for pure perfume & spilled a little on the lace on the dressing table, however, instead of washing my dress, she hung it in her closet as a sachet. And that, my friends, is where the life long love of Chanel Beaute began. Since that day, my Mother has called "Little Smiling Smelly Melly". She sings it. I love it.

As we age, sometimes our thought process is to let things unfold, however, youthful skin isn't only for the young.

Being a writer in the beauty industry for many years has taught me to always be open to possibilities. Finding skincare products & procedures which will suit an individual based on need is one that I support. The buzz about Restylane^® Lyft caught my attention right away! So I set out to meet with one of the best Dermatologists Atlanta has to offer, Dr. Anna Pare, the most gifted of doctors when it comes to talking skin health and aging.

Just to let you know, my curiosity about skincare started at a very early age. As a child, I lived in Florida. My Parents were a stickler for safety everything. So each morning, my Mother slathered sunscreen on my face, neck and arms before going out to play at the beach. As I grew into a teenager and older, I was often teased due to the pale halo from the sunscreens of the time on my dark skin. I wore it anyway. Topical skincare products peaked my interest as I grew up, even more than makeup did, and I was determined to find out all I could about keeping the skin healthy and beautiful.

As technology & science advanced, better alternatives for health & defying the age process became available. Of course, first and foremost, most talked about was proper healthcare, like hydration and foods that are full of nutrients; activities, to keep the body functioning and running smoothly and topical protection against outside environmental elements, such as sun & pollution. The foundations of basic skin health will never change, however, we are living longer, so aging skin is a common thing we all share as we advance in age. What to do? Think of alternative resisters, such as topical creams and fillers.

Meeting with Dr. Pare at Dermatology Consultants to talk about the aging skin alternatives like FDA approved Restylane^®Lyft was very engaging! She is quite knowledgeable in the field, of course, working many years to achieve her current credentials. Knowing such, I was more excited and curious to see what she would have to say about my skin health, and if Restylane® was the product for me, since I, being very proud of my aging process thus far, am starting to have a few concerns!

The consultation included, with her assistant Sydnee, a brief medical review, an up close and personal hands-on skin analysis, a list of my possible issues and addressing my concerns. Dr. Pare never seemed rushed or even concerned with the full waiting room of patients. My time and appointment was very personable, I was impressed, because in this day and age of rushed doctors, my time with her was my time.

I ended up not being a candidate for a filler at all. We each have a very unique genetic make up, so some need a little bit more help than others. Indications: The Restylane family of products includes Restylane®, Restylane-L®, Restylane® Silk, Restylane® Lyft with Lidocaine, and Perlane®. Restylane, Restylane-L, Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine, and Perlane are indicated for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Restylane and Restylane-L are indicated for mid-to-deep dermal implantation. Perlane and Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine are indicated for implantation into the deep dermis to superficial subcutis. Restylane Silk is indicated for submucosal implantation for lip augmentation and dermal implantation for correction of perioral rhytids in patients over the age of 21. Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine is also indicated for cheek augmentation and for the correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies in patients over the age of 21. Restylane and Restylane-L are also indicated for submucosal implantation for lip augmentation in patients over the age of 21.

Products in the Restylane family contain traces of gram-positive bacterial protein and are contraindicated for patients with allergies to such material or in patients with severe allergies that have required in-hospital treatment. These products should not be used by patients with bleeding disorders or by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Restylane and Restylane-L for lip enhancement and Restylane Silk should not be used by people under 22 years. Restylane-L, Restylane Silk and Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine should not be used by anyone with a known allergy to lidocaine. Products should not be injected anywhere except the dermis, superficial subcutis (Perlane and Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine only), or lip submucosa (Restylane, Restylane-L, and Restylane Silk only).

Use of products in the Restylane family at the site of skin sores, pimples, rashes, hives, cysts, or infection should be postponed until healing is complete. The most commonly observed side effects are swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache, tenderness, and itching at the injection site. These are typically mild in severity and typically resolve in less than 7 days. Serious but rare side effects include delayed onset infections, recurrence of herpetic eruptions, and superficial necrosis at the injection site. Do not implant into blood vessels. Use with caution in patients recently treated with anticoagulant or platelet inhibitors to avoid bleeding and bruising.
