Slightly Dumbstruck | C4 Blogathon 15 Day Challenge!!~ | Day 6

A little about me: I am from the north-south. I moved to Atlanta from Maryland. I was recruited and transferred here by an art company.I spend my days creating. I write fashion and lifestyle content for sites like Lyst.com & Equipment. I have worked for British-based Mr. Brown Home, Julian Chichester Furniture and Trowbridge Gallery. I even once lived in New York and worked for the corporate cosmetic giant, Estee Lauder.
I am now actually studying to be a web developer and I work in a creative field. I spend my days writing, reading, researching or making something.
I spend my weekends exploring.
For the past two days I have been utterly knackered and I feel like the quality of my writing is suffering.
I am trying to prevail! So I will use some humor.
As you may know, Steve Martin started his career as a stand up comic, however, he is also an amazing writer. In 1998, he wrote a book called Pure Drivel, which is hilariously right on point and creatively, I find it easy to relate to right now.
My favorite and most memorable chapter is called 'Writing Is Easy.'
He says, " Many very fine writers are intimidated when they have to write the way people really talk. Actually it's quite easy. Simply lower your IQ by fifty and start typing!"
P.S. Writing ain't easy.

When one opens life up to a lot of people, tragic things become part of the doorway.
The way we deal with the pain can heal or destroy us.
I made the decision not to shutter it away.
So I took on the life of the optimist and here I remain.
Now, let's keep it simple.
I am exploring the human condition.
What I wish for is my work to be read. For it to evolve, like me. Never to be stifled by life and it's ever changing nuttiness.
Stay loyal to those whom are loyal right back.
Stay loyal to those whom are loyal right back.
I wish to achieve, to inspire and to give others hope.
Yes, we are back at hope.
Yes, we are back at hope.
In between writing, I make things. I enjoy beautiful things. I make serious things and silly things. I teach art to kids, to grown ups.....to whomever willing to learn something new.
I listen and learn from them too.
I listen and learn from them too.
Babbling.
I think I'm tired, it's been a long day.
I think I'm tired, it's been a long day.
Here's a little pictorial.
Also, a promise to do better with tomorrow's project.
Sweet dreams.

~I'm a Goalie!!~ C4 Blogathon 15 Day Challenge!!~ | Day 4
9:11 PMCapitol de Beaute Blog by Melanie Woodroffe
Until this particular project, I liked the direction of my work. I understand the importance of setting goals, but still prefer my previous five minute plan.
I feel like this stifles the creative juices a little, the spontaneity of visualizing and then creating in an instant. The adrenaline of waking up in the middle of the night with an idea and jumping out of the bed to kick start it!
A checklist is never a bad thing, setting goals is great as well. A sub-goal checklist with a recycle bin is right up my alley.
By the way, 30 years into the future is a bit much. Being creative also means being opinionated about what works for each individual.
So here you Go...al!
Five Goals in the next 30 years:
1. Build an informational series of websites
2. Publish all the books
3. Product launch
4. Financially secure
5. Move to another city or country
Five Goals in the next 5 years:
1. Write a second book
2. Tweak the website
3. Work on making the book and website lucrative
4. A full tech upgrade including software {creating a budget for that}
5. Focus on project checklists {no wasting valuable time or procrastinating!}
Five Goals in the next 12 Months:
1. Finish the book
2. Design a dress for Lions Lighthouse Event
3. Launch the website
4. Be selfless and selfish with my time. Use it more wisely
5. Create and follow a plan of action with an achievable checklist

This is a design that I created for Lions Lighthouse Foundation's Night of Spectacles Charity Fashion event. My model is a Medical Doctor and Eye Surgeon. Her heritage is Hungarian and East Indian, so I wanted to design something that reflected her background.

~Ain't too Proud to Fail!!~ | C4 Blogathon 15 Day Challenge!!~ | Day 3
8:38 PMCapitol de Beaute Blog by Melanie Woodroffe
I believe that the best way to overcome fear is to take a flying leap of faith!
Line your feet up to the edge & jump!
My adventures in writing, designing, making, and everything creative all stem from the confident knowledge that I will probably fail and that not all people will like what I do.
I'm okay with that.
What this leap of faith helps me do is take more risks and find out what I am really good at.
I am proud of every triumph and every failure. All of it.
Of course, I am a mere mortal, and occasionally a smidgen of what looks like regret from failing creeps up, so I create something else.
The idea is to keep moving forward. With every small step, there is a much greater one.
Above is an article that I wrote for Points North magazine.
I was able to incorporate all of the things that I am passionate about; style, sustainability, shopping local, community, and creative endeavors.
Super pleased with how it turned out!

Oh Spring! I wish for thee! The past two days have been beautiful! So I have been style musing in my closet. These vintage Gucci mules are dying to be walked!
1940s inspiration, all vintage & from that era!
This is what happens when one throws a bunch of vintage randoms together! A wonderful splash of textures, colors and blends of beads with a little mink on the side!
This clutch is from the 1970s. I guess you can tell that I have a penchant from vintage!
Tocca NY body and bath products are my favorite! Here's my restock!
Love this Crosley record player from Urban Outfitters! In turquoise! Die! Live!
Yves Saint Laurent, the initials say it all! Metallic pink too! Gracious!
From my fave store, Saks Atlanta!

Beauty, brains and super kind. The divine Hannah in DSquared2 from Saks Atlanta.
um, so, I want to talk about that time my sister was thrift store shopping and found a brand new $1500 St. John jacket for super cheap! Yep, it happened!
{I added a little nautical theme using a JCrew T and Jewels!}
One word: Sublime. From the lovely Oscar de la Renta.

~The Five Minute Plan!!~Short Story | C4 Blogathon 15 Day Challenge | Day 2
11:04 AMCapitol de Beaute Blog by Melanie WoodroffeI was a sick child with an "old person's disease", it began to destroy my joints, eyes, vital organs at the tender age of 8 years. Tiny swollen hands and fingers, tight skin close to splitting open. Blood shot eyes & barely being able to walk was normal everyday life for me.
So I try to think of my life in tiny packages. Small manageable bits and pieces of perspective.
If I attempt anything larger, I lose some of my creative edge with worry. The latter probably stems from everything that I have told you in the beginning. Hope is more attainable in small dosages. Being creative is very similar to hope, well, the end result is the same, a sense of satisfaction and optimism. Hope was all I had as a child. It is part of my middle name. It defines me.

I am lucky to be here, so I make things with my hands. I am grateful to be here, so I make until they hurt, and sometimes they hurt before I can make, so all I can do is rest & dream of making.
One day they will cease to move and to make. A five year plan is out of the question. A five minute plan is more feasible. I can dream in those minutes and if things are working smoothly, I can make in those minutes.
This photo was taken in Serenbe at the Southern Living Magazine Holiday Market Event of some of the things I make and sell. I am always creating mentally, creatively and physically.
When I am not writing, I am making jewelry, painting, sculpting....using my hands to remain dexterity, flexibility and movement, relying on hope to remain sane.

I exist to create. I am the energy, the force, the producer of great things.
My life's purpose is to share, to mentor, to mold a younger generation.
To leave a legacy.
To leave a legacy.
I am what the future holds.
This photo is of my Great-GrandMother Ollie (right) and her sister, Una. I am living their legacy. Both were scholars, writers and creators. In a time when women, especially women of color were considered nothing, they prevailed. Overcoming great obstacles to build a wonderful life of their own.
